What is CTE?

In it, he addressed former Pittsburgh Steelers player Terry Long, who was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease. Long drank a bottle of antifreeze to commit suicide in 2005, with doctors at the time attributing depression associated with the condition as a factor in his death.

“Terry Long, football gave me CTE and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze,” the note said, according to reports from The New York Post.

“Please study brain for CTE. I’m sorry. The league knowingly concealed the dangers to our brains to maximize profits,” he wrote. “They failed us.”

Las Vegas police send condolence and support after New York shooting

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has issued a statement of support following last night’s mass shooting in New York.

Gunman Shane Tamura lived in Las Vegas and worked at a casino.

The statement reads: “Our condolences go out to the New York Police Department, who lost an officer, and the families of the other victims. We are supporting the NYPD with their investigation.”

Two teams have been dispatched to Nevada as part of the investigation into the incident, which left five people dead, including the shooter, in New York’s worst mass shooting in 25 years.

Gunman suicide note shows admiration for CTE documentary and list of neuroscientists

The suicide note that gunman Shane Tamura left behind included a list of prominent neuroscientists and revealed an admiration for a documentary on CTE.

The New York Post reports that Tamura had scrawled “frontline documentary” on one of the pages — an apparent reference to the League of Denial documentary that examined the links between the NFL and possible brain injuries from head trauma.

The note also made mention of the “Fainaru brothers” — the two ESPN reporters who co-wrote the book on which the documentary is based.

There was also a list of doctors, including Dr. Ann McKee, chief of neuropathology at Boston University’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, and Dr. Christopher Nowinski, the co-founder of Boston University’s CTE Center.

Tamura’s note included a plea to study his brain for signs of CTE, the degenerative brain disease linked to concussions and head traumas associated with contact sports.

Speaking in interviews earlier today, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said of Tamura’s motive: “We’re still going through the suicide note to zero in on the exact reason, but at this time it appears as if it’s something attached to his belief he experienced CTE from the NFL.”

Despite Tamura’s suggestion that he suffered from CTE from playing in the NFL, he only played high school football in California.

Gunman’s car contained ammo, second weapon, cannabis and antidepressants

A law enforcement source has revealed to CNN what the authorities found in gunman Shane Tamura’s car.

The vehicle, a Nevada-registered BMW, was left double-parked on Park Avenue between East 51st and East 52nd streets.

Police found a host of items in the car, including ammunition and another loaded weapon.

The items included a box containing plastic bags of ammunition and an additional loaded magazine for the rifle investigators say the shooter used in the attack.

Police also found a loaded revolver and rifle case in the vehicle, as well as headphones, likely used for ear protection or target practice, the source told the network.

In addition, two cell phones, Zoloft antidepressants, and cannabis were found in the car.
