The Spanish government is offering a total of 750 places for language assistants in state schools, for those from certain countries with which it has agreements with.
This year for the first time, candidates from Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the United Kingdom and Switzerland can apply.
Graduates and university students from the following countries can also apply to teach various different languages. These include those from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria (English), Canada (French or English), China, Ivory Coast, Denmark (English), United States, Philippines, Finland (English), France, Hungary, Ireland, India, Iceland (English), Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Morocco (French), Norway (English), New Zealand, Netherlands (English), Fiji, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Sweden (English) Switzerland (German or French), Thailand (English) and Tunisia (French).
What are the requirements?
The specific requisites vary depending on your nationality, but generally:
You must have citizenship or permanent residence in one of the countries with which Bilateral Cultural, Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreements or Education Memorandums have been signed. This is the list of countries above.
You must have obtained a university degree or be a university student, at least in the second year.
Be of legal age (turn 18 before January 1st, 2025) and be under 60 years of age as of January 1st, 2026.
Present a Responsible Declaration document that confirms that you do not suffer from an illness or special condition that makes it impossible to perform your duties as a conversation assistant.
Present a signed document of declaration of knowledge and acceptance of the conditions of the conversation assistant programme.
Submit a signed motivation letter if you’re applying for the first time.
Submit a reference letter or report, from a professor or employer, no earlier than September 2024.
Candidates from Bulgaria, China, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Singapore and Sweden must demonstrate a level of English equivalent to a C2.
Have a certificate proving you have a clear criminal record, particularly when it comes to crimes of a sexual nature. This certificate will be required at any stage of the process. If you are renewing your application, you must request it from the Spanish police.

What are the terms and conditions of the jobs?
You will receive a monthly payment of €800 to help with food and accommodation. This will be in exchange for 14 hours a week in schools. In some cases this allowance may be higher, depending on where you’re based.
What are the dates?
The language assistant positions will run from October 1st 2025 to May 31st 2026, but for those who get jobs in Madrid, it will run until June 30th.
Applications are open now and the deadline to send it in by is March 26th.
How can I apply?
New candidates from Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the United Kingdom and Switzerland must apply through the corresponding body in their country of origin by the deadline. This process changes slightly depending on your country. Later, if successful you will be given a username and password to access the Profex 2 platform, where you can submit all your documents.
New candidates from Australia, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, China, Ivory Coast, Denmark, United States, Philippines, Finland, Hungary, India, Iceland, Morocco, Norway, New Zealand, Netherlands, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Singapore, Sweden and Tunisia must first contact the Ministry of Education in their home countries. They must also request participation through the Profex 2 platform.

If you are renewing your application for another year, you can do this through the Profex 2 platform. If you’re from the UK or Switzerland, you must first renew with the corresponding body in your home country and then through the platform.
