President Donald Trump has reacted to Zohran Mamdani’s New York City mayoral acceptance speech, calling it “angry toward me” and “very dangerous.”

After winning Tuesday’s election, Mamdani said, “So hear me, President Trump, when I say this, to get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.”

“It’s a very dangerous statement for him to make,” Trump told Fox News’ Bret Baier. “He has to be a little bit respectful of Washington, because if he’s not, he doesn’t have a chance of succeeding.”

Trump had threatened to contribute only the “very minimum” of federal funds to the city if Mamdani won the election.

The president has also hit back at his West Coast rival, California Governor Gavin Newsom, unveiling a new nickname for him.

“Maybe that should be his nickname, slimy. Slimy Newscum, right?” the president said at the America Business Forum in Miami Wednesday.

In response, Newsom wrote on X: “You lost.”

Also on Wednesday, Newsom and California Secretary of State Shirley Weber were named in a lawsuit brought by state Republicans, after voters on Tuesday approved Prop 50, allowing the state to redraw congressional district boundaries.

Recap: A huge night for Democrats and a dismal performance by Republicans

The evening of November 4 was a dismal night for Republicans and a jubilant one for Democrats, as the GOP was defeated in four major votes.

Zohran Mamdani swept to victory to become NYC’s new mayor, after running on a campaign focused on making the city more affordable by raising corporation tax.

The self-described “Trump’s worst nightmare” won 50.4 percent of the vote, according to CBS News, while independent Andrew Cuomo won 41.6 percent and Republican Curtis Sliwa took home 7 percent. Mamdani is the first person to receive over a million votes since 1969.

Meanwhile, Democrats won two gubernatorial races – one in Virginia and one in New Jersey.

Democratic congresswoman Abigail Spanberger became the first woman elected as Virginia’s governor when she defeated Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears.

And Mikie Sherrill thrashed Jack Ciattarelli at the ballot box in New Jersey.

A vote in California also ended in great results for the Democrats. Voters gave the green light to Proposition 50, which will allow the state to redraw its congressional maps to favor Democrats, as Republicans have in Texas.

Trump urges Republicans to talk about affordability

President Donald Trump has urged Republicans to talk about affordability after Democrats swept elections across the country.

“They have this new word called affordability, and [Republicans] don’t talk about it enough. The Democrats did, and the Democrats make it up because we took over a mess,” Trump told Fox News’ Bret Baier in a new interview.

Democrats won major races Tuesday while campaigning on lowering the cost of living. The incoming New York City mayor, Zohran Mamdani, promised free buses and a rent freeze, while Mikie Sherrill, who was elected the governor of New Jersey, vowed to declare a state of emergency on utility costs.

But Trump claimed when it came to affordability, “Democrats lie about it.”

Fox News host Jesse Watters bizarrely blames single women for Mamdani’s ‘socialist takeover’ in New York

With 93 percent of the votes in, Mamdani leads with 50.4 percent of voter support, followed by Cuomo with 41.6 percent and Sliwa with a mere 7.1 percent, according to The New York Times.

Speaking with his colleagues on The Five on Wednesday, Watters said single women were the “force” behind Mamdani’s electoral coalition.

Republican strategists say Democrats now have the momentum into 2026

The question now is whether the White House and twin Republican majorities in Congress will change course or double down on an agenda of mass deportations, on-again-off-again tariff ploys and “owning the libs” at every opportunity.

As Donald Trump headed to a meeting with Republicans on Wednesday, a federal government shutdown was in its 36th day. A record for the longest defunding of federal agencies has now been shattered, with Washington still paralyzed and the president seemingly only marginally interested (before now) in the result.

But the president himself gave away the ballgame as he spoke to reporters: “I don’t think it [the results] was good for Republicans…the shutdown was a big factor, negative for Republicans.”

How NYC residents could face Trump’s wrath over Mamdani’s win

Mamdani told supporters before election day that New Yorkers face “twin crises” of an “authoritarian” Trump regime on one hand and a mounting cost of living crisis on the other.

On Monday, Mamdani’s opponent Andrew Cuomo said Trump would “send in the National Guard to New York” if Mamdani wins.

Trump bashes Mamdani’s victory speech and said he should be ‘very nice to me’

President Donald Trump has bashed New York City’s incoming mayor, Zohran Mamdani, for his victory speech and said he should be “very nice to me” to get federal approval on projects, per the Associated Press.

After winning the election Tuesday night, Mamdani said in a fiery speech, “If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him. And if there is any way to terrify a despot, it is by dismantling the very conditions that allowed him to accumulate power.”

“So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up,” Mamdani said.

Trump called the speech “angry” and said Mamdani was “off to a bad start.”

The president said Mamdani should be the one to reach out to the White House after his victory, not the other way around.
