UK Nintendo Switch 2 preorders
Unsurprisingly, it’s been tough to preorder the Switch 2 since availability first opened on April 8. All retailers offering home delivery are sold out. However, Smyths Toys offers in-store pickup, and a handful of locations have it in stock at the moment. Just be sure to get your order in as soon as possible if you don’t want to miss out. We’re also monitoring several other retailers, so check back regularly.
Note: We have no confirmation that the digital download code for Mario Kart World in the UK Switch 2 bundle will work with non-UK Nintendo accounts. The power cables are also different for each region. If you plan to buy a UK Switch 2 from outside the country, please know there’s no guarantee it’ll work as expected.
Nintendo Switch 2 preorders are currently sold out at Amazon, both for the console alone and the Mario Kart World bundle. We’ll update this page if we see a restock.
Nintendo preorders are officially open in the UK, but you’ll need to have received an invite to take advantage of them. Games and accessories are also available for preorder and don’t require a special invitation.
Both the Mario Kart World bundle and the console alone are sold out at Argos right now. We’ll check to see if more stock is added. Games and accessories are still available to preorder.
Very’s Switch 2 preorders are currently sold out with the retailer suggesting would-be buyers “keep checking back” for further updates. We will, of course, be doing that checking. When it did have Switch 2 models in stock, there were also a number of different bundles on offer that paired things like controllers, cases, microSD cards and games with the console.
Smyths Toys is currently sold out when it comes to home delivery, but there are a handful of locations that have click-and-collect availability for the standalone console at the moment. Just be sure to act fast, as these will likely sell out fast.
John Lewis has sold through its preorder allocation of Switch 2s, though you can input your email if you want to be notified of restocks there. We’ll also keep tabs on the page.
EE is listing the Mario Kart World bundle as out of stock right now, though it could be a good, slightly more under-the-radar place to check for restocks.
Currys is taking a unique approach to Nintendo Switch 2 supply and demand issues by requiring that preorders be placed in-store. You can head to your nearest to do so, though you probably want to call ahead before making the journey to avoid potential disappointment. There’s no sign of an online preorder yet, but the link below is where you’ll need to be when the device is eventually listed online.
GAME is a go-to spot for those wanting the latest hardware but it has already sold out of its initial Switch 2 preorder stock. Plenty of games and accessories are available to preorder.
ShopTo has sold out of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles at this early preorder stage, but we’ll keep checking back there in case of a restock.
There’s no joy for Nintendo fans at The Game Collection right now with both listings for the Switch 2 console and the Mario Kart World bundle showing as out of stock. There’s a chance more stock gets added, so we’ll keep you posted.
US Nintendo Switch 2 preorders
Preorders in the US were supposed to open on April 9, but following the implementation of President Donald Trump’s new tariffs, Nintendo delayed preorders in the US and later Canada. There haven’t been any official updates since that announcements, but a potential leak from Target has led to speculation that they will begin on April 30. That being said, this is just a rumor at this point, and there’s a decent chance that this date is just a place holder. While the dates are still unclear, several retailers have already confirmed that they’ll be offering preorders as soon as they’re available. We’ve listed several below, and we’ll continue to update this page as new information becomes available.
Preordering directly from Nintendo is the obvious choice if you’re looking to grab the Switch 2 on release day. You can order just the console for $450 or bundle it with Mario Kart World for $500. You can register for preorders now, with priority being given to Nintendo Switch Online members who’ve had a paid membership for at least 12 months and have a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours as of April 2.
The standalone console and Mario Kart World bundle will be available for preorder at Walmart. We’d recommend having an account with your payment info and shipping address, which could save you valuable seconds during the checkout process.
GameStop is another major retailer that’s confirmed it’ll be offering Switch 2 preorders. Sign up for email notifications to get the latest updates about availability sent straight to your inbox and create your account now so you won’t have to worry about entering your payment and shipping information during checkout.
In addition to the console, Target will also be offering preorders for many Switch 2 games and accessories. As with other retailers, there’s a possibility that Target Circle members will be given priority, and we’d recommend at least creating a free account and entering your payment and shipping info beforehand.
Best Buy is one of the largest tech retailers out there, so it’s no surprise the chain will be offering Switch 2 preorders as well. You’ll need to have a Best Buy account to preorder the console, and you’ll have to verify your location details during checkout. Select stores will also be having a midnight release. You can sign up for email notifications if you want to stay up to date with the latest news.
As of now, it’s unclear whether Newegg will be offering Switch 2 preorders. However, it’s participated in similar events in the past, and we’re hopeful this release will be the same. Newegg is also less popular than other online retailers, like Amazon, so there may be less traffic and competition, which increases your chances of a successful preorder.
Canada Nintendo Switch 2 preorders
Shortly after UK preorders for the Switch 2 became available, Nintendo announced that Canadian preorders have joined those in the US in being pushed to a later date — which some are speculating could be as soon as April 23. Nintendo said the June launch date for the console remains unchanged, but for the moment it’s unclear when preorders will become available and what the difference in pricing may be compared with initial announcements.
Walmart has been reliably offering information regarding the availability of the console to Canadian buyers, and it plans to offer both versions of the console once that’s possible.
Best Buy Canada has joined Nintendo in delaying the preorder date for this console. As soon as more information is available, you’ll find it here.
When can I preorder the Nintendo Switch 2?
Preorders began on April 8 for UK customers, and while they’re currently sold out everywhere, we could see restocks in the coming days. US and Canada customers were originally going to be able to order the console on April 9, but in light of the new tariffs levied on Japan and other countries, Nintendo has delayed preorders in both countries while it assesses “the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.”
The My Nintendo Store is listing May 8 as the invitation date for its first batch of preorders, but it’s unclear if retailers will have availability starting then as well. Rumors suggest that US preorders will begin on April 30 and Canadian preorders on April 23, but these are speculative and could very well be placeholder dates. We’re closely monitoring the situation and will update this article as soon as new information is available.
It might be nothing (like a placeholder date), but Target has their Nintendo Switch 2 console preorders on the wishlist backend as going up on April 30th. April 30th is last day of the month, so it could mean nothing/placeholder. Just sharing what was discovered. https://t.co/viJM5FJNZQ pic.twitter.com/FqEujR4THo

How much will the Nintendo Switch 2 cost?
When details about the Switch 2 we’re first revealed, the standalone console was priced at $450, with the Mario Kart World bundle priced at $500. However, confusing recent reports predicted that the tariffs could lead to substantial price hikes for US customers, while others suggest that such increased costs are already baked into the list price of the new console. Nintendo hasn’t said anything about changes in price for the Switch 2, so we’re hoping the $450 starting price stands, but we’ll keep an eye out for any further announcements. There was also some hope that gaming consoles would be one of the items excluded from the new tariffs, but it no longer looks like that will be the case.
When will the Nintendo Switch 2 be released?
The Switch 2 is scheduled to begin shipping on June 5. As of now, Nintendo has said the preorder delay in the US and Canada won’t affect its release date.
When can I preorder Nintendo Switch 2 accessories?
Preorders for Switch 2 controllers, cases and other accessories will begin at the same time as console preorders. For UK customers, that means you can start ordering them now. Additionally, some third-party Switch 2 accessories are already available.
When can I preorder Nintendo Switch 2 games?
As with accessories, Switch 2 game preorders will be available when console preorders go live.

Will the Nintendo Switch 2 come in other colors?
For the new Switch 2, Nintendo has ditched the colored Joy-Cons for a more sleek, monochrome look — though there are still pops of red and blue around the analog sticks. As of now, Nintendo hasn’t said anything about additional colors.
Is the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle worth it?
The Mario Kart series has been a long-standing tentpole for Nintendo, and fans were thrilled to hear that a new title is on the way. But the excitement was dampened by the announcement that the new game will come with an increased price tag: $80 for the digital edition, or $90 if you want a physical copy. That said, you can bundle a digital copy with the console on release day for $500 total, which saves you $30 compared with buying them separately. It’s an excellent value if it’s a game you’re certain you want in your library, and likely the only “discount” we’ll see on this title for quite some time. Plus, Nintendo recently announced that this bundle will be available only “through fall 2025,” which means you’ll have a limited chance to take advantage of these savings.
Nintendo Switch 2 preorders: What are people saying?
The uncertainty around preorders certainly hasn’t been helping with gamer’s mixed feelings about Nintendo’s new console. While some are happy to see that Nintendo hasn’t altered much about the wildly popular original Switch, others feel not enough has changed to justify the $150 price hike — with CNET gaming expert Scott Stein calling it a console that “feels a lot like an updated version of a system many people already own.” Additionally, there are some (currently unsubstantiated) rumors that the new tariffs could mean North American customers could be paying even more, though others suggest that this increase is already accounted for in the new $450 starting price.
