After years of speculation, Ubisoft has finally confirmed that the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake will launch this July.
The original Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag was released back in 2013 and the open-world naval game went on to sell more than 11million copies.
Rumours about a remake have been circulating since at least 2023. Last year, Edward Kenway’s voice actor Matt Ryan hinted he’d be returning as the loveable pirate and back in March, Ubisoft boss Jean Guesdon revealed the studio was working on the Resynced remake of Black Flag.
After the release date leaked earlier this week, it’s now been confirmed that Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced will launch July 9, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
“We know that you’ve been waiting, we know that you’ve heard things,” teased Edward Kenway’s actor Matt Ryan in a worldwide reveal video. “today it’s finally time to share with you what we’ve been working on. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced is a faithful remake of one of the most beloved Assassin’s Creed games. It’s totally rebuilt from the ground up and enriched with lots of new additions. The same story but elevated to a new level of realism and immersion – to bring you one of the most swashbuckling pirate adventures.”
According to the Steam listing, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag‘s combat has been “rebuilt for more dynamic encounters, emphasising parries and takedowns, while stealth and parkour have been improved for smoother escapes and assassinations. Quality-of-life additions also address previous pain points, ensuring your experience is improved.”
A number of “brand new missions and chapters” have been added to Kenway’s story. However, multiplayer and the original Black Flag‘s DLC won’t feature in the “story-driven” game.
French musician Woodkid will be returning to the Assassin’s Creed universe after working on 2011’s Revelations to contribute new music and sea shanties to Black Flag Resynced. Ubisoft have also shared the PC specs for the Black Flag remake. Check them out below:
A Collector’s Edition of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced will be made available, and include a statue of Edward Kenway, a notebook featuring Kenway’s diary entries, a broach, a cloth map and other digital “goodies”. That’ll reportedly set you back £174.99 while the standard edition of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced is priced at £49.99.
Netflix is also currently working on a live-action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed.
In other news, the soundtrack to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is getting released on vinyl for the very first time.
